#113 Imogene Nix
Hello to everyone reading this file. The story of how I came to be involved in this project and how I chose the files is serendipitous.
Back in January 2021, I was reading through Facebook and saw a post from another author (who incidentally is also participating) mentioning that the “Writers on the Moon’ project was taking Expressions of Interest. A quick look at the information had me moving with all speed to sign up.
I write erotic Science Fiction Romance, so this appealed to me (SFR because I get the research angle of Science). I entered my EOI in the hope that I’d be chosen to participate. The process closed (unknown to me) 2 days later on 8 January 2021.
I received an email on 27th January that I’d been offered slot #113 of 125…
I was ecstatic! Trust me, speed dial to Mr Nix to share the news!
So, how did I decide which books to include, which covers and what images?
I’d like to say it was easy. But it wasn’t. I’ve got over 40 titles spread over 3 writing names. Non-Fiction, a range of sweet through to fully fledged erotic novels and the odd “How To”. How do you pick a favourite? How do you choose a single book eligible to go to the moon?
For me, it came down to which were the first book series? Why would they stand the test of time? The book that started my writing career – STARLINE is the second of the Warriors of the Elector book. Now that probably doesn’t make sense. Let me explain. I wrote Starline first, then came up with the novella The Star of Ishtar that actually precedes Starline. There’s 6 books in all… Now I forgot Starburst (#5) because in the rush to upload it was overlooked… but the rest of the entire series is there.
Starline was set in my home region when on Earth. The series actually has all Australian based “earthbound” characters. We travel to the town of Bundaberg, through Brisbane and so on. I wrote these places, because I know them so well, and could see their changing over time.
Why Science Fiction and why this story to begin it all?
You may have heard the adage, write what you know… Well, that’s fine if you lead an exciting fly by the seat of your pants. I’d tried that lots of times and within a day or two, the impetus petered out.
By the time I actually engaged fully in the process, I was married with 2 teen daughters, living in regional Queensland and running an online bookstore. Sounds like fun? It was! I had the opportunity to sponsor a writers award… Now for my money I’d have loved the Science Fiction award, but it wasn’t available, so I started out with the Romantic Suspense award. This is where I first actually met, face-to-face with authors I’d had correspondence with. Keri Arthur & Bronwyn Parry, Nalini Singh and so on. (Pretty cool huh?)
In 2010, as part of the sponsoring, I attended the ARRA (Australian Romance Readers Association) Conference in Bondi. This is where the proverbial penny dropped for me. Listening to authors talking about how/when/why they started writing. What inspired them… I remember that minute clearly. That’s when I knew I could write too!
After that weekend, we came home, and I sat down at my computer. I wrote every day for 3 months. Starline was born.
The urge was there, and somehow the storyline blossomed too. I can’t say I planned it all the way through. I’m not a planner for my actual writing, but I did get to the end and realised I’d created something of worth. Something that others wanted to read.
In 2011 Starline was released by Secret Cravings Publishing (a small house) and once I gained the rights back, Beachwalk Press took the entire series (except The Star of Eternity) and together the series was revamped, re-edited and received awesome covers. In 2021, the entire series re-releases from 1 March 2021 under my personal publishing persona of Love Books Publishing (Australia.) The new covers are perfect. They reflect the emotion of the books, and it’s clear they are science fiction.
I love Science Fiction. I enjoy the research (which shows up all the way though the books) and I can’t even begin to explain the hours of watching take offs and landings of the space shuttle. (I mean how do you even begin to find the videos on YouTube… but I managed it.)
Starline gave me the wings to learn to use what I do well, to create a world, a government structure and more. Starline changed me. Changed my world and opened up vistas of opportunity. That’s what writing is about to me.
What else did I include?
Along with all the covers for the latest incarnation of the Warriors of the Elector series, I also included two zombie book covers (I Dream of Zombies & The Six Million Dollar Zombie) and two paranormals (The Blood Bride & The Illuminated Witch). (I write all kinds of romance – Paranormal (including Demons, vampires & shifters, fae and the odd angelic warrior), Historical (Mid-Late Victorian era), Contemporary, Post-Apocalyptic & Steampunk along with my Science Fiction.
Lastly, I rounded the file out with my bio pic, a pic of my family of 4, my husband and I and a pirate pic that I used to use as my biographical image, until I replaced it with the one I included as my main photo.
My biography reads:
Imogene is published in a range of romance genres including Paranormal, Science Fiction and Contemporary. She is mainly published in the UK and USA.
In 2011, Imogene Nix (the pen name not Imogene herself) was born. Imogene sat down and worked tirelessly for 3 months culminating in the books Starline, which became the first in a trilogy titled, “Warriors of the Elector.”
Imogene has successfully been contracted for twenty-five titles. She has also completed several others. In 2017 Imogene decided to self-publish most of her further works – a plan which is in train.
Imogene is a member of a range of professional organisations world-wide, and believes in the mantra of mentoring and paying it forward.
She loves to drink coffee, wine & eat chocolate and is parenting her spoiled dog and a ferocious cat along with her husband and 2 human daughters.
I hope, whoever you are reading this, that one day, you might take a change and share an experience with someone from the future by reading my books… They are written for enjoyment. They are written from a place of love.
Peace to you
