#103 Cat Johnson

Hello readers!

Author Cat Johnson here, one of the Writers on the Moon time capsule participants. I’m here to explain what I sent for inclusion and why.

Of course I sent a sampling of my published books. But there are also images that definitely need explanation.

I chose to leave for future generations a montage of images that represent some of the biggest moments of my writing career.

For example:

I included a picture of a page from the New York Times newspaper. That is from the first time I was on the New York Times Bestselling Books list. #8 on the eBook list and #11 on the Combined EBook/Print list. The top 15 of the Combined list was printed in the Sunday New York Times newspaper. I bought a copy and framed it.

There are also pictures of some of my books that were on the USA Today Bestselling Books list.

But beside bestseller accolades, I’ve had some amazing experiences as an author, even before my books ended up on the moon!

Here are some of those moments…

Nora Roberts is an iconic hugely popular author of my time. I was invited to sign with her at her family-owned bookstore in Maryland. There is a picture of all the signing authors with Nora.

I write a series of books about Navy SEALs. There is also a very popular television show called SEAL TEAM. One day, I saw online that the actors in the cast of SEAL TEAM were reading my books. They posted pictures of my books in their hands. Amazing! Those pictures are included.

I wrote a book series “Oklahoma Nights” set in Oklahoma and in one of those books, One Night with a Cowboy (a USA Today Bestseller) I mentioned a real restaurant, Joseph’s Fine Foods in Drumright, and I mentioned one of their menu items, the Fried Bologna Sandwich.   That led to the mayor of Drumright, Oklahoma declaring National Bologna Day. The restaurant also named my book series on the menu with the sandwich. We were in the newspaper. I traveled from New York to Oklahoma to meet the people there and sign books and speak to the Rotary Club. These are the pictures I included.

As an author, I not only write the books but I have to promote them. To do that for my Studs in Spurs bull rider series, I used a tagline LET’S BUCK and decided to sponsor bull riders by paying for their travel and entry fees in exchange for them wearing my name, tagline and website on their shirts. I was surprised when one bull rider and his sister had LET’S BUCK tattooed on their bodies (him on his stomach, her on her foot) and one of my readers surprised me at a book convention (where authors and readers meet to celebrate their mutual love of books) with a tattoo on her shoulder of my boot logo and LET’S BUCK. These pictures are also included.

And of course, there is a picture of me.

I think it’s important for people of the future to realize that the romance book industry is not just authors writing books and readers reading them. It’s so much more than that. Online or in person, the book world encompasses more than written words on a page or words on a screen. It’s a culture. A lifestyle. For some, an obsession. And I’m honored to be a part and to share a bit of it with you.

Welcome to my world and thank you for welcoming me to yours.
