#114 Stephanie and Isaac Flint

Stephanie and Isaac Flint selected Distant Horizon and its sequel, Fractured Skies, to send on the lunar time capsule because that was their first joint project. It started as a homebrew tabletop role-play game between the two of them, and was inspired by dystopian stories such as The Giver by Lois Lowry and stories with superheroes, such as Marvel’s X-Men.

For the role-play game, Isaac played the part of the game master, orchestrating the events of the plot, while Stephanie played the main character and began taking detailed notes about halfway through the game, which she later wrote into novel format. Though the final version of the book, revised by both Stephanie and Isaac, has a lot of changes from the game, it still has many similarities.

Since this was not only their first joint project, but also a science fiction series, it seemed fit to be a project to send to the moon.

In the payload they also sent a picture of a fun, somewhat abstract “Space Orca,” which was something Isaac created from Daz 3D stock assets that Stephanie then polished.

Beyond that, they included a couple author photos, one from when they first started publishing books, as well as a more recent photo.

When they started writing they always aimed for the sky… but they never thought their stories might make it to the moon.
