Chances come only as often as you are willing to look. I knew I had to choose my first work. It wasn’t my best, and it wasn’t my favorite, but it is the piece that gave me courage.
My Laughing P collection flowed from me like spilled ink, and I loved every moment of it. I wasn’t satisfied with just that, so I included some works that I was proud of too, like the Beneath Yggdrasil’s Shadow featuring my story “Don’t Go Chasing Water Drops.”
Both my children—Natalie and Izabelle—have things included in my payload. One is a short story based off a writing prompt Natalie did around Halloween, and Izabelle’s is found within Ms. West 1st grade stowaway file.
There are few things in this world that I think matter more than giving children the chance to reach heights they never even dreamed of. When I secured my spot on this journey to the moon, I opened this chance up to my children’s classes. Ms. West, a 1st grade teacher at Lee County Primary, took my offer, and I’m so glad that the entire class participated, and I am honored that my youngest has her for a teacher. To those kids, with the moon firmly in your grasp, I hope you reach for the stars and never give up on your dreams … no matter how silly it seems or how old you are … you can achieve anything with friendship.
