FAEBOURNE

I chose to send this novel to the moon because it combines the things I most love: historical fiction, magical realism, and gay romance. This probably isn’t my *best* book, but it’s the one that best represents me overall.

FAEBOURNE didn’t start out as a gay romance, but the chemistry between George and Davies was too strong to ignore. There are traditional heterosexual couples, too, but George and Davies quickly became my favorites, even though it was originally meant to be Duncan’s and Adelia’s story. And, yes, Richard is asexual (not that it ever comes up).

Because many readers of historical romance tend toward conservatism (growing up in a religious household myself, chaste Regency romances were some of the only ones I was allowed to read), and also perhaps because historical romance has a very set formula that FAEBOURNE does not entirely follow, this book did not receive as much love from readers as my more “classic” works. But this one holds a special bit of my heart because it’s different in the way I’m different—quirky, not quite conforming to expectations. Like me, this book has several identities it attempts to integrate into a whole. FAEBOURNE is unique, and I hope future generations will appreciate that.
